Karla Harper managed the Caffe’
before she and her husband bought the business in
December 2003 with the goal of re-establishing Sprizzo
as the centerpiece of Historic Downtown Waukesha. With
the new ownership came a new look, with painting and
design by original owner, Jeff Seymour. In addition, a
full service bar designed in the shape of 3 giant olives
with light up pimentos completed the funky decor.
Karla
grew up in Elkhorn, Wisconsin and came to Waukesha in
1983 to obtain a teaching degree from Carroll College.
Karla, her husband Jeff and daughter Alexa have a
passion for the arts and strongly believe in supporting the work of Waukesha’s local talent. As a
member of the Waukesha Business Improvement Board, Karla
is committed to the growth of a vibrant downtown.

Sprizzo Gallery Caffe’ is home for
lovers of the arts, good food, coffee, martinis, and
music. Sprizzo means “spark” in Italian, like the spark
of creativity and the spark of the first cup of great
coffee in the morning. Sprizzo sparked an explosion of
arts and entertainment in the community by original
owner Jeff Seymour in 1997. Creative energy is exactly
what you will experience at Sprizzo.
Sprizzo is located in a remodeled
turn of the century building in Historic Downtown
Waukesha, where in the early 1900’s Joe Simon of Simon
motor Sales Co. once delighted his customers with the
automobiles he would drive back from Detroit. The tin
ceiling and terrazzo floor act as reminders of the
building’s rich history, combined with the contemporary
and brightly colored walls form a canvas for a series of
shows featuring mostly local artists in a variety of
media.
While you admire the art, sample Sprizzo array
of homemade daily specials, including soups, sandwiches,
and salads, plus a spectrum of gourmet coffees and
teas. With outside patio seating next to the Riverwalk,
the location is a downtown hot spot. The full bar built
in the shape of three giant olives, is the perfect place
to enjoy a specialty martini. Friday night Open Mic
encourages local musicians, while Saturday nights
feature area professionals. Everything in the
restaurant, including the counters, tables, bar, and
chairs have been custom built and painted making Sprizzo
a work of art in and of itself. |

"When I want to impress someone from out of town, I always take them to eat at Sprizzo Gallery Caffe. The funky creative decor is famously described as "Picasso meets Pee Wee's Playhouse." Incredibly friendly, helpful staff, always fresh tasty food instantly convinces people the new Waukesha is a hip happening place. I personally endorse the terrific cup of soup and half a sandwich along with the Milky Way Cool Mocha. Tell the cheerful owner Karla "the mayor sent you."
-Mayor Larry Nelson
